Prof. Dr. Adeel Afzal (FRSC) earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Vienna, Austria, in 2007, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Bari, Italy. He has served as Assistant Professor at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and COMSATS University Islamabad (Lahore Campus), and later taught Chemistry at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and the University of Hafr Al Batin, Saudi Arabia.
In 2021, he joined the University of the Punjab, Lahore, as Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry and has been leading the School of Chemistry as its Head since October 2025. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Prof. Afzal is recognised among the world’s top 2% of highly cited scientists (Elsevier/Stanford University ranking).
His research focuses on the design of imprinted and functional materials for applications in chemical sensors, biomedical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and energy technologies.
