Rules of use

Using the portal responsibly

The portal holds unpublished research, personal information and lab records. Everyone who uses it agrees to look after them.

Your account

  • Keep your account to yourself. Never share your password or let someone else use your account.
  • Keep your details accurate, and sign out on shared computers.

Lab information stays in the lab

  • Chemical and inventory lists are for lab members only. Do not copy, publish or pass them to anyone outside the lab.
  • Do not share unpublished results, manuscripts, or other members' files outside the lab without the professor's permission.
  • When reviewing someone's document, keep it confidential and use it only for that review.

Copyright and library materials

  • Library books, papers, recordings and course files are for your own study and research.
  • Do not redistribute copyrighted material or upload it where you have no right to share it. When in doubt, share a link rather than the file.
  • Credit others' work properly, and never submit someone else's work as your own.

Chemicals, instruments and safety

  • Book instruments before using them, and follow the lab's safety instructions and the supervisor's directions.
  • Report low stock and damaged equipment promptly. Enter only true figures if you update stock.
  • Check the hazard information before handling any chemical.

What is not allowed

  • Harassing or disrespecting other members.
  • False information in submissions, requests or bookings.
  • Attempting to reach areas or files you were not given.
  • Uploading harmful files. Programs and scripts are blocked automatically.

If rules are broken

The lab's administrators can withdraw portal access, suspend or block an account, or revoke shared files. If that happens you are told by email in most cases; contact the lab if you think there is a mistake.
